By accessing and using BookExChelf ("Website," "App," "Service," "we," "us," or "our"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions ("Terms"). If you do not agree with any part of these terms, please do not use our Service.
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Your continued use of the Service following the posting of revised Terms means you accept and agree to the changes.
2Service Description
BookExChelf is a reading tracking and management application that allows users to:
- Track books they are reading
- Create personal book shelves
- Monitor reading progress
- Set reading goals
- View reading analytics
- Participate in reading leaderboards
- Import books from Goodreads
The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, except as expressly stated in these Terms.
3User Accounts & Registration
3.1 Account Creation
To use certain features of BookExChelf, you must create an account by providing:
- Full name
- Email address
- Password (at least 6 characters)
You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration.
3.2 Account Security
You are responsible for:
- Maintaining the confidentiality of your password
- All activities that occur under your account
- Notifying us immediately of unauthorized account access
We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from unauthorized use of your account.
3.3 Account Termination
We reserve the right to terminate or suspend your account if you:
- Violate these Terms
- Engage in illegal activities
- Harass or abuse other users
- Post inappropriate content
- Attempt to manipulate or exploit the Service
Termination is at our sole discretion without liability.
4Subscription & Payment
4.1 Premium Plans
BookExChelf offers a Free tier and Premium subscriptions:
Free Tier
- 10 books limit
- 2 shelves
- Basic tracking features
- Limited leaderboard access
Premium Tier
- ₹1/day (₹35/month or ₹365/year)
- Unlimited books & shelves
- Advanced analytics
- Custom reading goals
- Ad-free experience
- Priority support
4.2 Payment Processing
- Payments are processed through Razorpay (payment gateway)
- Your payment card information is NOT stored on our servers
- All transactions are encrypted and secure
- Receipts are sent to your registered email
4.3 Billing Cycle
- Monthly subscriptions renew automatically on the same date each month
- Annual subscriptions renew on the anniversary date
- You will receive email reminders before renewal
4.4 Cancellation & Refunds
- You can cancel your Premium subscription anytime
- No refunds for partial months
- Your account reverts to Free tier after cancellation
- All premium features are disabled immediately upon cancellation
- Your data remains accessible in Free tier format
Refund Policy
Refunds are NOT issued for:
- Accidental duplicate purchases (contact support)
- Change of mind
- Features you didn't use
Refunds MAY be issued for:
- Unauthorized transactions (within 30 days)
- Service outages longer than 24 hours
- Technical bugs preventing feature use

4.5 Price Changes
We reserve the right to change subscription prices with 30 days notice. Price changes apply only to new subscriptions and renewals after the change date.
5User Conduct & Restrictions
5.1 Prohibited Activities
You agree NOT to:
Legal Violations
- Use the Service for any illegal purpose
- Violate any local, state, national, or international law
- Infringe on intellectual property rights
Technical Abuse
- Hack, crack, or attempt to gain unauthorized access
- Use bots, scrapers, or automated tools without permission
- Perform denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks
- Reverse engineer or decompile the Service
- Attempt to discover vulnerabilities or exploit them
Content Abuse
- Post pornographic or sexually explicit content
- Post hate speech, discrimination, or harassment
- Post violent or threatening content
- Upload malware or viruses
- Post copyrighted content without permission
6Intellectual Property Rights
6.1 Service Ownership
All content, features, and functionality of BookExChelf are owned by BookExChelf, including:
- Code and algorithms
- Design and layout
- Logos and trademarks
- Text and graphics
- Databases and collections
6.2 User Rights
You may NOT:
- Copy, reproduce, or distribute any part of the Service
- Modify or create derivative works
- Reverse engineer or attempt to extract source code
- Sell or resell access to the Service
- Use the Service for commercial purposes without permission
7Data & Privacy
7.1 Data Collection
We collect:
- Account information (name, email, password)
- Reading data (books, progress, ratings)
- Usage data (features used, time spent, device type)
- Payment information (through Razorpay, not stored by us)
- Analytics data (to improve the Service)
7.2 Data Security
We use:
- SSL/HTTPS encryption for data in transit
- Hashed passwords (not stored in plain text)
- Regular security audits
- Secure Razorpay payment processing
7.3 Third-Party Services
We use:
- Razorpay (payment processing)
- Google Analytics (usage analytics)
- DigitalOcean (hosting)
- Goodreads API (book data)
Each has their own privacy policies which you should review.
8Disclaimers & Limitations of Liability

The Service is provided "AS IS" without warranties. We do NOT guarantee:
- Service will be error-free
- Service will be uninterrupted
- All features will work perfectly
- All books/data will be accurate
8.3 Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent allowed by law, we are NOT liable for:
- Lost data or accounts
- Lost revenue or profits
- Lost business opportunities
- Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
- Service interruptions
Maximum liability: Amount you paid us in the past 3 months (or ₹0 if free user)
9Changes & Discontinuation
9.1 Service Changes
We reserve the right to:
- Add, remove, or modify features
- Change the appearance or functionality
- Discontinue the Service
We will provide 30 days notice for major changes that significantly harm user experience.
9.2 Service Discontinuation
If we discontinue the Service:
- We will notify you 30 days in advance
- You can request data export
- All subscriptions will be refunded on a pro-rata basis
- We will delete your data within 60 days
10Governing Law & Jurisdiction
10.1 Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of India.
10.2 Dispute Resolution
For India:
- Try to resolve disputes informally first
- If unresolved, disputes fall under Consumer Protection Act, 2019
- Jurisdiction: Delhi courts (or your state consumer court)
